John Hamice James, MPA - Mentor/Advisor
Born and raised in San Antonio, Texas, John is the youngest of six. Educated at St. Mary’s University where he received his BBA in Marketing. He earned his Master of Public Administration from Texas A&M. John’s professional career began in city government in Bryan, Texas where he served two City Managers until 1994.
He moved to Midland in 1995 to join TOMCAT USA, Inc. as the company’s Vice President and General Manager and ultimately as its CEO. During John's tenure the company grew from 40 employees in Midland, Texas to hundreds of employees in 4 manufacturing plants in three different countries. In 2011, John started MODE Communications and serves as its CEO.
John’s past civic and volunteer efforts in our community are many including, the Midland City Council where he served two terms, the Texas Lyceum, a non-partisan, non-profit leadership organization, Vice President of the Midland College Board of Trustees, President of the Midland Development Corporation, President of the Board of the MISD Education Foundation, President of the Midland Community Health Care Services Board of Directors, Board Member of the Midland Chamber of Commerce; Casa De Amigos, Board of Directors; Texas City Management Association; John Ben Shepperd Public Leadership Foundation, Board Member; and President of the Board of Basin PBS. In addition, John has served our state through appointments from both Governor’s Bush and Perry.
John also is a local businessman and entrepreneur spending his working hours as CEO of MODE Communications.
